Some animals that have been sent into outer space include dogs, monkeys, mice, fish, and fruit flies. These animals were used in scientific experiments to study the effects of space travel on living organisms.
Most likely a terrier. The specifics are unknown.
The second living thing sent to space was a dog named Laika. Laika was a Soviet space dog who became the first animal to orbit the Earth aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957. Unfortunately, Laika did not survive the mission.
the soviet union was the first for everything in space except for the moon. first dog first man first woman first walk first to orbit. name just came to me laika she was also the first to die in space. we sent up a monkey but designed for a live re-entry so as not to disturb the public and cloud the space program
In the early 1950s they used initial tests on rats, mice and rabbits which would not return to Earth. The Russians then chose dogs over monkeys because it was believed that they would be less fidgety in flight. In 1951-52 a total of nine dogs were sent into space. On November 3 1957 a dog named 'Laika' was the first dog in orbit. In 1960, 4 dogs, a grey rabbit, 40 mice, 2 rats, and 15 flasks of fruit flies were sent up. In 1961, 2 dogs, some mice and a guinea pig were sent up to space in March, before Yuri Gagarin was the first astronaut in April 1961. See the related link below for more information.
