This is actually a tricky one and the answer may well surprise you. Logic hints that yes it might very well be one of the "Livestock" animals mentioned above, but the truth is much, much closer to our hearts for two very different reasons. First reason, abject fear! we were often prey animals in this Alpha predators domain and scientist even beleive that at the very begining of human development this animal may very well forced us to live in large groups and create social ties to stay away from it's night time mauraudings. Second reason? Absolute respect for its hunting prowess. Utilizing strength in numbers and structuring a heirarchical attack strategy the animal was successful in the majority of it hunts. Watching and understanding the benefit of cooperative hunting may very well have given us the reliable and consistant source of higher protien that humaity needed to develop the sapience and intelligence we have today. Its hard to imagine our humble beginnings with the Canine but from almost the very begining man and dog have co existed together, developed relationships and ultimately spurred the other to greater and greater heights ont he evolutionary ladder. When they say mans best friend they are being literal. With dogs we would not be what we are today.
ANS 2 - Did all that mean "dog" is the answer .

yes goats can help calm horses, pretty much any farm type animal will calm a horse, you just have to be careful they may chew the horses tail up to where they cant reach anymore, so i dont suggest putting a goat with a show horse. goats and horses can be great companions, and the goats breaks the cycle of worms that attack horses. These worms don't do anything to the goat.
