Darwin traveled to the Galapagos Islands as a naturalist on a ship that was doing surveys of the Pacific ocean. By observing the plants and animals on the islands he gradually formulated his theory of evolution. It was 24 years later when he published his famous book on the origin of species.

Charles Darwin discovered plants and animals during his trip. He also saw that there were different mocking bird on each island he visted.
He traveled on HMS Beagle. This voyage was extensive, stopping at many exotic places and a trip which took nearly five years; they did not to return to England until October 2, 1836. During that time, they visited Tenerife, the Cape Verde Islands, the Brazilian coast, Argentina, Uruguay, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, the Galapagos Archipelago, Tahiti, New Zealand, Tasmania and the Keeling Islands.
