no they are not - Actually, some populations of Painted Turtles are endangered. The coastal population of Western Painted Turtles are endangered in Canada (listed as "endangered" by COSEWIC). Other populations are threatened or of special concern.
I guess they are endangered because we drain or do thing to the land to expand our cities and farms and make living more convenient.
Some are. But most aren't. I have a bog turtle as a pet and it's completely harmless. The only thing I've seen it bite is it's food! this is to the owner of the bog turtle "just because yours doesn't bite doesn't mean that it is not poisonous!" sincerely jochechan (P.S.I go looking for stuff like this.)

The Bog turtle can live without oxygen, so when its getting cold it will just bury itself in the mud. The shell is light and dark brown so they can blend in with their habitat if a predator is near.
