he discovered digitalis which cures dropsey
William Withering was the discoverer of digitalis which cures dropsy. Dropsy (nowadays called edema) is congestive heart failure. This means that the heart as a pump cannot deliver oxygen rich blood to the body and therefore stops circulation.
William Withering discovered the medicinal properties of digitalis by observing its traditional use in treating dropsy, a condition characterized by fluid retention. He conducted experiments to verify its effectiveness and documented his findings in his book "An Account of the Foxglove and its Medical Uses," published in 1785.
