so...most people who are studying the origin of dogfighting believe it started in England. This knowledge is based on paintings of dogs that researchers believe look exactly like (old versions) of the modern day Pit-bull. The second reason to believe this is because Bullfighting started in England and it is very similar to dog-fighting. A dog was basically thrown into an enormous ring with a bull, and whoever died first lost. The spectators ranged from the homeless to royalty. I did a project teaching people about why dogfighting is wrong and why the penalties for the dog-fighters should be raised. So...if you have any more question i know of a few good sights that offer a lot of insightful info on the origin and general info.

Although dogfighting had become illegal in most states by the 1860's, it continued to flourish as an American pastime through the early twentieth century.

Dog fighting started in Mexico because they wanted to be entertained and they decided to have dog fights for entertainment. I don't ,think this is a poor way to say a answer, dog fighting because some of the dogs die and the people don't even care all they do is laugh. :( :( :(

Dog fights had started way back in the late 1300; which i believe is not correct since we really don't know what had happen back then, but I say around the 1600 or 1800's if you seem to be round that time. But beg to differ i believe it started in England

When Bull Baiting was baned in 1835 bull-baiting dog owners had tenacious and powerful dogs left with no blood sport so they started wadeging them against each other
