George Graham Vest did not write his tribute to the dog. He had worked all night in his office on another case. He became tired and fell asleep on his desk. Morning came and he awoke realizing that he has an early court case. He washed his face and knotted his tie, realizing his suit and shirt was wrinkled. As he ran to the court house his thoughts were of "Old Drum". He had not prepared his speech. When he was summoned to speak, his heart and love of dogs guided his speech. George G. Vest was a man who loved his fellowman as well as all the creatures who called Mother Earth home. "Mans' Best Friend" was spoken from his heart.

Service dogs wear a vest so that they are easily identified. It is not required by the federal law, but it does make access easier. It also helps the dog differentiate from "work" and "play". When the vest is on - they are working. It is not ok, however, to put a vest on just any dog and claim that it is a service dog. That does a disservice to those who truly need the dog.
Because that is the name which Alabama Vest, its designer, gave it. Some think that is may have been Onomatopoeia (like the word "buzz", or "pop", which make the sound of their meaning), others think it may have been the name of his mother, wife or daughter, or even a misspelling for an African word for the mirliton, from Vest's verbal heritage.
If we are in a classroom/office, paleontologists attire would be a formal outfit, maybe a jacket. But, if were doing field work, then you will normally dress for the weather. you would normally wear just a shirt (Or jacket if the weather is extreme) and jeans, with a reflective vest, steel toed boots, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses.
no they will become dehydrated and violently ill Ocean and any sea water can unfortunately be fatal to dogs - there is a story of a poor dog dying from taking in too much sea water whilst swimming - see link. Sea water can cause extreme dehydration and symptoms of sickness and diarrhea. A dog life jacket will keep the dog's head above water and therefore there will be less risk of the dog ingesting sea water. Short muzzled dogs such as boxers are more at risk and again the answer is to use a dog life vest to elevate the muzzle.
