Depending on the breed. "Seasonal" breeders will begin to cycle in August to September when the days start to get longer and cooler. "Non-seasonal" breeders can cycle throughout the year.

Some breeds of sheep will begin to cycle at 3-4 months of age while others will not cycle until over 1 yr of age. A ewe should not be bred until she has achieved 70% of her projected adult weight and/or be older than a year old at time of lambing.
