When should you carry your guinea pig?

You can start holding the babies when they are about a week old. Mom will not disown the babies because they smell different like a hamster would. It is good to get them used to people before rehoming them to responsible owners, otherwise they will be afraid of human interaction as they get older.

I guess when you carry your guinea pig is up to you, but I would recommend reduce the amount of times you pick up a very young guinea pig, or very old one. Being an owner of two lovely guinea pigs, I have noticed mine squirm a little when being carried while the person carrying them is walking, so I believe they feel more comfortable while sitting on your lap or up against your chest while you are sitting. Don't carry them around if they are tired or maybe sick or stressed, maybe just petting them is better in that case.

When I take my guinea pigs out of their hutch and sit down with them, however, after getting used to their surroundings they seem to relax and enjoy which is a good thing. Don't carry your guinea pigs too much but don't never carry them, if you rarely carry and hold your guinea pigs they wont trust you as much, and feel uncomfortable if they are unsure of who you are.
