The American or Eastern Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) is migratory, ranging from mid-Alberta to North Carolina during the breeding season, and from just south of the Canadian border to Mexico during the winter. However, not all Goldfinches migrate, especially if they live in the south. Here in NE Georgia, I have Goldfinch at my winter feeding station. In the spring they nest in my woods and when the sunflowers are ripe in the summer, they come out from the woods to devour the seed heads.
