Rats usually like to hide in dark corners. If the rat is scared then it will probably go to the nearest dark spot. Some rats use different strategies. Some go under blankets or maybe even on top of something.

Also, rabbits tends to hide behind shrubs and in thicket bushes, or behind stumps and under logs. Really, any place that is out of sight and dark colored so they can blend in.

How do you play hide and seek with your pet rat?
Well this is what I do: I take my pet rats into a room where they cannot chew anything harmful or get hurt, but make sure there is hiding places, and then count out loud to 15 or 20. Rats are VERY curious, so they should be out of sight somewhere.. then when you find them, give them a treat and say: "hide and seek" After a couple of weeks of practice everyday, your rat should become familiar with the term "hide and seek" and when ever you say hide and seek, they will run to a hiding place! (make sure to be consistent and keep your number that you are counting to the same!)
