Are shetland sheep dogs good with kids?

Note: Sheltie is another name for the Shetland Sheep Dog.Answers:1.) On a scale of 1-5 (with 1 being best), they are a 4 meaning: "Best with older considerate children". (source - see LINKS area below).Other opinions:2.) Shetland sheepdogs have a strong tendency to nip at ankles of small children. They are a loving breed and get along with anyone hence they are known to make excellent family pets, but when your kid plays with the sheltie, make sure an adult is there to supervise.3.) they are great with kids don't worry about the nipping only mind it if you child is 7 or below.Even more opinions:The Shetland Sheepdog is the same as most other dogs, they will only nip if they have not been trained very well. If trained well they will get on well with kids although it is probably best to supervise if the child is very young just to be on the safe side.

What can dogs be useful for?

Dogs can be used for so many things. First and foremost, they're just a great friend and companion to have around. But as a profession, German Sheperds are usually Police Dogs, and other dogs like Labs, Golden Retrievers, German Sheperds, and Dalmatians can be used for the Seeing Eye and Hearing dogs. Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes can be used as sled dogs, and dogs like Border Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs and many other herding dogs are typically used for herding.
