yes, The lichens and mosses help to form soil by secreating acids on the rocks they cling to, also when lichens die they create soil so that one day the soil can support grasses that can support brushes and shrubs which can support, red alders then doug firs then cedars and hemloch

They help enrich the soil. They are algae living in mutualistic associations with fungi on rocks or tree trunks, in places that are not as hospitable to larger plants. The fungie also helo maintain humidiy which allows the algae to survive where other small plants such as briohyta wouldn't. That's why they're usually pioneer organisms.

Primary succession can be seen in city streets because mosses , weeds , and lichens can establish in cracks of sidewalks or buildings . Linches break down the rock & that let's water freeze and thaw in cracks , which breaks down the rock further . Soil slowly accumulates as dust particles in the air are trapped . The dead remains of lichens accumulate as well. When mosses die they decay and add material and nutrients to the growing pile of soil .
