Most of us farmers are not mean to our chickens. We love our chickens and take care of them as well as our dogs and cats and all our farm animals.
If you mean chickens raised for egg and meat production, then it might seem mean to some people but those birds are considered a commodity and are raised specifically to feed humans growing demand for meat and eggs. The people who work there focus on the end product and try to do their jobs as efficiently as possible. There are exceptions to to this and some people are mean but they usually do not stay in business long.
