Cats can't eat human food because their is a chance they can contract worms such as roundworms or tapeworms, although this is not very common. Many human foods can actually harm a cat as they are toxic: Chocolate, onion, garlic, raw potatoes and tomatoes, grapes and raisins. Cow's milk and a large amount of cheese are not tolerated well be many cats also. They, of course, can be fed human food (meat, for example) as an occasional treat, but should never be fed such foods as part of their daily diet as this does not meet a cat's nutritional requirements, or could make the cat sick.
