They used to be used in automotive paint. The latest I have managed to find for fish scales use was the original formula for 1963 Corvette Sebring Silver. The new formulas now use finely ground aluminum or mica particles. They don't have the same metallic-pearl 'glow' that an original fish scale formula has.
