Cats have large eyes to help them see. They have horrible vision so they have to have more color glands in their eyes. These color glands are blue, red, green, black, and white. They larger the eye, the more color glands, the better vision.

A cat's pupils enlarge automatically in low-light conditions, to let in more light so it can see better.

A cat's pupils also enlarge when a cat is scared; as with humans, the adrenaline released by fear enlarges the pupils to allow more light in so that the cat can better perceive what is happening around it.

Some forms of blindness in cats also result in the cat's pupils enlarging, as it tries to bring in more light to correct for its failing vision.

They get small in the light so the light isn't so blinding and big in the dark so they can see better.
