Cats have adapted to hunt at night. They have reflectors in the back of their eyes that allow them to see in the dark. Most of their prey species can not. This allows them to have an advantage over the animals they hunt. Also it is cooler at night. Predators have higher metabolisms and typically run hotter. It is more advantageous for them to sleep in the day and become active at night.
Cats are nocturnal in nature. They are predators and love to think they are being the night watchman or watchwoman. My cat sleeps all day, and if I get up to go to the bathroom or drink of water in the middle of the night she is always on the job.
If a cat is being noisy at night and is female, she is in heat.
The majority of cats are nocturnal, meaning they are active at night. They hunt, play, and do all the things cats do. That said, cats can be trained to sleep at night. I've had many cats over the years that sleep at night when the house is quiet and play during the day.
They can't see in total darkness and their daytime vision is only fair, but they can see far better than humans in semi-darkness. They can also distinguish brightness 7 times better than we do. As nocturnal hunters, their eyes are able to scoop up even the smallest scrap of available light. Their vision generally is blurred at the edges and they see best at 6 - 20 feet. When it comes to movement, though, the cat doesn't miss a twitch. An aside: a cat's diet without taurine, a substance crucial for his eyesight, will make the cat go blind. Dog food lacks taurine, so never feed it to a feline.
It was once believed that cats are colorblind, but now it is known that they can actually tell the difference between certain colors. Basically, they see the world in shades of blue and green. Though they see color, cats don't pay much attention to it. In nature, color isn't particularly necessary for a cat's survival success.
most cats are trained by there parents(usualy their mom) as hunters so they can find their own food. even some housecats retain their natural hunting instincts. there could be different reasons. it depends on the circumstances. they could be hunting(racoons, mice, rats,) it could just be entertaing, they could sense danger( intruders) they could have a restless, energetic personality, they could be exploring a new house(just moved in) or it could just be raw instincts
Cats aren't really nocturnal. They are crepuscular which is being active at the beginning of the day and the end of day. So they sleep at night, but not a whole lot!
because they are naturaly nocturnal. When they weren't domesticated they're prey(the mice) would be out at night too
