I'm not a scientist, but I have my own cats and have done research and studies on them. The reason I believe cats roll in dirt is to "cleanse their fur", in a manner of speaking. To them, this is like putting smell good on ourselves. They smell all the different scents and chemicals in the dirt, and so they use it, in a way, to let others know where they have been.
But, there could be other reasons, such as:
Smoothing the fur to help them run quicker
A reason to clean it later
It feels good, remember, they cant just go somewhere to get a massage when they feel like it I hope this helps, but I'm sure you could find this answer by doing some research, and also, just watch the cat. See why they do it by watching what they do before and after. Also, you could keep them away from dirt and see how they react differently from it, so you know the difference between having dirt and not having dirt, and so you could get an idea from that. I personally would do this experiment, but my cats are inside cats only.
Not at all! But if on catnip cats can roll in various types of poo
Pigs have scent glands that produce strong odors, which can make them smelly. Additionally, their diet and digestive system can also contribute to their odor. Proper sanitation and hygiene practices can help reduce the smell associated with pigs.
yes penguins can do many things such as roll over
Yes cats do trump. As food digests gases like methane are produced and are released from the anus. They do not make a sound due to the fir around his bum, however be warned these are very smelly. So yes cats do have farty pants.
Its not the pencils and pens themselves, its the motion. When you write with a pencil or pen, the motion attracts the cat's attention and it wants to play. Obviously as you are wiggling the pencil or pen YOU are signalling the cat that you want to play, which makes the cat even happier... and that much harder for you to write...
i dont really think that they mean to roll in smelly things, i think they are trying to get rid of other smells
Surprisingly, Cats Are not at all Smelly. Considering in the summer time lots of people let their cats wander off in their backyard, they lick themselves clean for "Protection" and stay out of the dirt. Also, a Cat can ONLY be Smelly if the litter box is smelly. If the litter box is smelly that most likely means that your cat has problems with its stomach. Its nothing To get TOO Worked up about, All you have to do when your cat gets constipated is See a vet ASAP. Cats are VERY clean domestic Animals, Not at all dirty.
rip your smelly cats eye out :D
Because dogs are smelly.
Sounds like fertilizer.

They roll in it for the same reason they'll roll on anything "smelly"... it's a hunting instinct. Dogs do that to mask or cover their own scent.
Because cats are weird, lol. Often cats roll around and rub on things to put their scent onto it, it is their way of marking that certain area as theirs.Sometimes I think my cats do it just because they like being dirty before they come back into the house. ^_~

They do a lot of things, but not like dogs. They roll around wich is like saying "this is my house so scram" and walk around on it.
