That is what they are bred to do.
They can be. This is a trait that is avoided by breeders but nonetheless some shelties are simply timid creatures.
Shelties are sweet natured dogs who love their owners deeply. They avoid confrontation and are not at all aggressive. They do have herding behaviors (nipping at heels) but that is not aggression and easy enough to stop simply by asking the dog to lie down whenever it does this
I love mine her name is zena and she is sooooo lovable!! She has a mind of her own
In Australia, the terms mustering or droving are used. In North America, the general term is herding or driving or rounding up cattle.
herding sheep on a farm
well first you have to be able to keep up with it. Shelties are herding dogs so they bark alot so you have to be use to barking. Shelties are fast runners so when you take it on a walk make sure you be careful. Plus they need alot of exercise.

A wolf and a Border collie. The wolf is smarter than the Border collie by the way. The Aussie is a more intelligent animal than the sheltie, as they seem to learn faster, and have superior herding skills. Not to say shelties are not intelligent, but the Aussie learns his job faster. Border collies are reknown for their herding skills, and the Australian shepherd rivals their ability.
Yes shelties shed a lot! but some shelties like mine don't shed that much at all. but do not shave your sheltie it is very bad for them because since they are from a cold place when the sun hits there skin it burns them.

Shelties come in: Sable Blue Merle Tri Color Bi-Blue Bi-Black Shaded Sable Double Merle - double merle is when two blue merle shelties mate and there baby comes out mostly white. Those shelties are bound to be either deaf or blind. It's sad. :(
They bite.
Obviously, each dog is different, with varying personality and lifestyle. Shelties, as a whole, are known to nip people. Being herding dogs, it comes naturally to them. My own sheltie, however, does not nip; at least, not precisely. She more just bumps her nose against my heels/legs when she's happy and excited. Her teeth rarely touch me. I've never tried to stop this behavior, finding it rather endearing. I do know another sheltie, though, that does have a problem with nipping. He goes to AKC competitions where nipping can disqualify him. But nipping often is not a problem, as shelties rarely bite down hard. If it does become a problem, training should eliminate it. IN SHORT: Yes, they do nip.
usually year round but mostly in spring
No, nobody should hate any dog.
Between 14-20 Years
You can get a sheltie from a breeder, shelter, or rescue organization. Never buy dogs from pet stores. Himark Shelties is a good place if you want a sheltie for AKC conformation, agility, or obedience.
