They bite on their cage mainly because, like beavers and bunnies, their teeth will grow and they need to keep it ground down. It might not stop the chewing on the cage, but it will help them a lot if they have something to chew on. They can chew on wooden parrot toys, willow balls, blocks of wood, or branches. Apple branches seem to be a favorite with them. If you buy a toy from the store you should be careful about the dye that is put into them.
i have one degu i rescued from a place where they adpoted off his fellow degu separate and he was there for a while. i need to get him a new degu play mate....any places in southern maine??
This all depends on what gender your degu is. If you have a male degu, you should get a male degu, but if you have a female degu you should get a female degu. In other words you should get same sex pairs. But oviously if you want to breed get a male and a female, but be warned they breed like crazy!
Yes as long as it isn't dusty.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by this question. Degus are shaped like a degu.
I'm not sure about tying to bite your tongue, but i think the reason for the second part of your question is that your guinea pig feels more relaxed and protected when you are holding it. When it is in it's cage it could feel a bit scared, that or it knows that it has food in the cage so it doesn't have to eat out of your hand but when you are holding it, it has no other food source so it wants to eat out of your hand. Try stroking it in the cage whilst trying to feed it so it knows somebody is there... The answer to why it tries to bite your tongue is that it has made a game out of lunging toward the tongue when you stick it out. It gets a reaction and enjoys the game. Just don't offer your tongue and it won't try to bite it.
I'm assuming that by "dagus", you mean "degu". It's pronounced "day-goo", but that's how it's spelled is 'degu'. It's a cross between a kangaroo-rat, and a gerbil. A kangaroo-rat isn't a kangaroo and a rat, it's just a type of rat just like a pitbull is a type of dog, not it's own species. A degu is a fussy animal. If you get a degu at a very young age, you can put another degu in that young from another litter, or the same litter, but they tend to bond with the owner, and don't want to share attention which is why you don't want to have a degu for a long period of time, and then put a baby, or full grown degu in that same cage. Although a degu is part gerbil, it's not a good idea to put a gerbil in the cage with it. Degu's are feisty, and just want attention from the owner. You can do this if you'd like, but I have the most friendly degu, and she was very, very aggressive when even another degu was put in her cage.
The only animal you can cage with Chinchilla's are Degu's but even then there is a long introduction process and they are not guaranteed to get along. Talk to a breeder about how this is done.
yes it is possible to tame a degu
Mountain Degu was created in 1844.

Degu's should be kept in pairs. They are very social and make good pets. They are playful and curious by nature. They need a large cage, toys and attention. They should have room to play with each other and with their toys. Toddler toys are usually good choices.
Yes Degu's bite, only out of fear, if you pick it up wrong, hurt it them etc, all animals will bite if scared. I speek from experience having just been biten (ouch). But they are really good pets and hardly ever bite, like i said only when scared/threatened.
Degu Debebe was born on 1984-01-01.
Degu's can lose their tails as a form of defense, a degu should NEVER be picked up by it's tail. their tails do not grow back
no they cant
a degu averagely weighs about 5-8 ounces
Only if you want the degu to be killed and quite possibly eaten.
