Carbon-14 dating is not normally used to date fossils as it is only accurate for the past 60,000 years and most fossils are much older.
It is mainly used by archaeologists for dating bones and wood from historical sites.

∙ 12y agoCarbon-14 has a half life of around 5,700 years, which means that after 11,400 years only 25% remains after 17,100 years only 12.5% will remain, and after 22,800 years only 6.25% will remain. So, in 100,000 years about 17.5 half lives have passed, and using the generic equation for exponential decay (1/2^n, where n is the number of half-lives) you end up with 1/2^17.5 = 5.4e-6 or about .00000054% of the initial carbon remaining, which is not enough carbon to test with.
