Why does my cat pick up his favorite toy and carry it around and then set it down and cry while standing over the toy?

Does he bring it to you and then cry? I would hazard a guess that maybe he wants you to play with him!

no he doesn't bring the toy to me to play. he will just be laying there and all of a sudden he gets up,goes to the toy and picks it up in his mouth. then he holds it there for a moment,then drops it and sits on top of it and starts to cry(like he is mourning the toy).
he usually does this a few times a week. Any ideas as to why he does this? He has never had any sex or babies and he is also fixed. Your input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.thanks
