Because dogs' hearing it 10x as good as human hearing so the thunder is louder to them than it is to us. The thunder hurts their ears and lighting scares everything. It even scares rocks.

∙ 15y agoWe used to laugh at my mini dachshund. I live in the Pacific NW and when the rain started in October we knew he would try to hold his bladder until June.
I made a little pen out of garden Fencing and put a tarp on it. At first I had the pen at the end of my patio. I didn't care if he pottied on the patio. It was definitely better than the carpet or hardwood floors. I also put his coat on him so he was comfortable.
I put him in the pen and went back into the house and peeked through the window. That way I wasn't distracting him and he couldn't try to train me to pick him up and bring him in before he was ready.
Once he knew to potty in the pen, I gradually moved it to a bark-chipped area. He hated the wet cold grass also. I figured if he could potty outside for me, I could give him a comfortable area to potty in. Didn't take him long to figure out that if he emptied himself, we would come "rescue" him and let him in the house and give him a treat. Soon he emptied himself as soon as he got in the pen.

∙ 13y agoyes, most dog's do. But it's best if you give them baths when their puppys. So when that get bigger they are already use to it. They get cold at first but then get used to it
