Paleontologists would use drills if they knew that the dinosaur or prehistoric animal skeleton was a bit deeper than other skeletons. If there was a dinosaur skeleton that was only a maximum amount of 2 feet down, they might use their picks. But, if its around 5 feet down, they may use drills. If its even deeper, they might even use a smal bit of dynamite!

How many paleontologists are there today?

We do not precisely know how many paleontologists are in the World to-day. The number depends upon categories that you consider : professional paleontologists in institutional structures such as universities, national (federal) agencies, research centres, ...; professional paleontologists in private companies (oil companies, quarrying companies, ...); amateur paleontologists; technicians (preparators); full time vs part time paleontologists; including Ph.D. students and postdocs or not ... In France, we have ca. 6000 full time professional geologists (excluding Ph.D. students, secondary and intermediate school teachers, amateurs), and among them ca. 100 full time professional paleontologists, that is a ratio paleo/geo = 1/60 or 0.016 or 1.6%. In the USA, there are 120,000 to 200,000 geologists (see the American Geological Institute or AGI). If we apply the ratio of 1.6%, it gives 1920 to 3200 paleontologists. Extrapolating these two numbers worldwide may give something as 30.000 to 50.000 paleontologists.

How do Paleontologists use the remains of the Trilobites?

Paleontologists use the fossils of different aged trilobites to identify the age of rock formations and fossils in other locations. Similar trilobites found in British Columbia as found in Asia would indicate the rock was nearly the same age from both sites. May also mean that the two locations were once close together, but moved away due to plate tectonics.

If you want to use softball drills as warm-up make sure to use drills that are not strenuous that may cause strain. Make sure you modify the drills by lowering the intensity of the softball drills.
