Don't worry if you pull your dog's whisker out by accident. It will hurt them if you try to do it, but if it does come out there will be no bleeding. There is really no harm in doing it other than giving your dog pain.

Yes they do, but cats use these to help sense their environment so you should not cut them. Just let them be, they are beautiful anyway.

Whiskers are just specialized hairs with more blood supply and more nerve cells in their roots, and often rooted among muscles. However, it is probably best not to deliberately cut them, since they are a part of the sense of feel. Some believe that cats use their whiskers to know if they can fit through an opening. While that may be an oversimplification and perhaps incorrect, cutting cat whiskers might be a temporary impairment.

One myth is that cutting a cat's whiskers physically hurts the cat. It doesn't. Whiskers are hair shafts and as such, the hair shafts themselves are dead cells, made of keratin, like the rest of their fur, and our hair as well. Like the rest of their coat, if cut, gradually it regrows.

How do you get a dog to grow its hair back?

Your dog's hair should grow back naturally though depending on the cause of the scratching and hair loss it might not be as thick as it was. I'd suggest the cause of the scratching/hair loss be looked in to and trated to make sure there is no repeat so your dog's health does not suffer. Hair loss in dogs can be caused by many things - such as allergies, fleas or mites which can trigger your dog to scratch the affected area in an attempt to bring relief. his in turn can cause dog hair loss. If in doubt - see your vet. They usually tend to scratch due to stress, allergies, or things like that. Yea see your vet. They'll prescribe something for you.

If you shave your dog will his hair grow back weird?

No. Fur composition is determined by genetics. If you shave it, it may grow out "softer" at first.. but it will go back to the way it was before. However, if you put your dog through oncology treatments (radiology/chemo therapy) the fur may change, just like in people.

Why not clip your coton de tulear?

Hi, I am and experienced dog groomer. You can clip the hair of any dog and I have clipped many cotons. The breed standard is an unclipped coat. If that's your preference, find a responsible groomer to do it for you. If you hate it, it WILL grow back. It is hair after all. :)
