It's pretty abnormal behavior probably due to deficient or incorrect socialization of the male. Actually, this IS normal behavior. My younger male Boxer does this to our more dominant female. According to what I have read it may be his only way to show his dominance. You can correct the behavior by taking him out on a leash and tugging him away from her, awarding him when he does it.

∙ 8y agoSometimes the cat is making some sort of a statement. It could be the cat prefers one of the two of you and doesn't like you sleeping together. The other is that some cats can have bladder problems, so please see your vet as there is medication for this problem.

∙ 15y agoDogs are territorial animals. That is a fact, and when they want to say "this is my spot," they tell other people and animals by marking it using an assortment of ways. One of the most common examples is when your dog barks to warn potential interlopers that they are about to trespass on his grounds. Some dogs will take this territory marking to the next level by urinating (or defecating, which is uncommon) in a certain spot. Urine-marking behavior is not a problem of housebreaking; he is purposefully marking his territory.

Another view
Canines use urine to mark ownership and territory but seldom mark sleeping areas as those areas are usually full of scent already. I would guess the dog may be having domination issues and is trying to establish pack position over you.
It may smell something that offends them, or have to go potty late at night.
