I had the same problem. When you take off the battery cable for a few minutes, the transmission should then shift for a while, but mine would still not go into low gear, but would shift through the other gears, after reset, for a while. Some transmission shops will do a free diagnostic, with a hand held electronic tool. I would suggest doing this. I did, and one of my shift solenoids needed to be replaced. Replace them with Delco parts only. They are located under a pan on the back of the transmission. According to the rebuilder, the transmission had to be partially taken out to gain access to the pan. I had both solenoids replaced. I supplied them. The cost was $330.00 labor. This fixed my problem.
