The characters of the story are Hakeem, Darcy, the main character, and Brisana. Darcy is a girl that goes to a high school called Bluford High. In Bluford High, she hangs out with a couple of friends, and is pretty happy, and she has a boyfriend named Hakeem. Everything is fine except for two things. One, she used to have a best friend named Brisana in middle school, but now they aren't friends, and they go to the same high school now. They aren't friends anymore because Darcy hangs out with a different group of friends. Now Darcy didn't hang out with bad kids at all but Brisana called those two kids losers, and threaten Darcy that if she were to hang out with them, they wouldn't be friends anymore. Darcy tried to be friends with Brisana but she refused to be friends with her.
