Antonym of archaeology?
Archaeology is the study of material remains related to the human past. Such remains include monumental structures such as the pyramids of Egypt, to microscopic plant frag…ments retrieved from ancient soils. Archaeological research is undertaken on recent historical remains to supplement the written record, or on the prehistoric evidence of human culture where no other record exists. Archaeological methods are applied everywhere in the world where people have left remains behind, which for all practical purposes is anywhere on earth. From the buildings and other cultural artifacts left behind by the first Antarctic expeditions, to fossilized remains revealing the earliest human origins in Africa, archaeology provides a window into man's cultural past. Archaeology is also the study of past human populations, their lifestyle and their culture through material remains. The official definition for the word "archaeology" is "the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains."

The range of sites studied and the enormous variations in the amount and complexity of the remains hav led to great specialization in the disciplins that exist today under the general umbrella of archaeology. (From World Book Archeology Encyclopedia)
Archaeology is the study of the past, particularly people, by looking at their material remains (skeletons, pottery, settlements etc). It is not fossils, it involves humans. …Before humans (hominins) is palaeoanthropology, and before that is palaeontology. Archaeology is a sub topic of anthropology. Anthropology is the study of every aspect of humans, past-future. Archaeology mainly focuses on the past. It does in fact involve fossils. Because anthropologists believe in some sort of evolution, fossils of hominids, primates and any animal a hominid may have come in contact with (eaten) are studied. Archaeologists also study artifacts which is any human made object. Another spelling of archaeology is archeology, but that is a less used spelling...

Traditionally, biblical archaeology is the name given to the study of the archaeological aspects of the history of the Jewish and Christian churches as provided in the Judeo-C…hristian bible, including but not limited to the Dead Sea Scrolls. When a construction project is planned, the area first needs to be surveyed in case there is something there of archaeological importance that would be destroyed. These survey…s and excavations are a legal requirement and are carried out by commercial archaeologists. So a commercial archaeologists are teams who have make their living by being hired by building companies, to excavate an area before construction starts. Projects run by commercial archaeologists are normally very pressed for time because constraints placed by planned construction work, and so they may not be to as high a standard as other, research led projects. Even if something of interest is found it is unlikely that they will be able to extend the excavation to investigate further. Commercial Projects may be more inclined to cut corners, and staff may be paid less as project managers try to cut costs, in an effort to undercut quotes given by competitors. (The project who gives the lowest quote is more likely to be given a contract/hired by the construction company).
Of course it is! It tells us everything we know about the past!
