According to Youtube itself, it says that these are safe. Video previews are ads that run before YouTube videos. They're pre-roll ads, in a sense. The ads are suggested to you by Google. Google will determine which ads are relevant to you based on your viewing history, search history and other Google user data. The theory when Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006 was that if YouTube could provide high quality video, Google could show ads around it and then have users come to the site from the ads. The problem Google has run into is that the majority of videos on YouTube are not video previews -- they are actually the whole video. This is crippling Google's ability to get users to come back to YouTube to watch advertisements. __% of the videos on YouTube are past the three-minute mark. This is inhibiting Google's ability to show ads. __% of the videos on YouTube are past the 10-minute mark. This is inhibiting Google's ability to show ads. YouTube needs to make videos shorter because it is hurting the company's ability to bring in ad revenue.
