It depends on the engine , some engines require a timing BELT or belts , some
engines that I can think of have 1 , 2 , or 3 timing CHAINS
Take the engine apart. There is no reason to replace the chains unless you are overhauling the engine, normally.
Timing chains should last the life of the engine and are normally replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
The 4.0 L SOHC engine has 3 timing CHAINS
On a 2007 Ford Explorer : The 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine has ( 3 timing CHAINS ) The 4.6 liter , V8 engine has ( 2 timing CHAINS )
Well whats your environment?
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains . There are two timing chains at the front of the engine and one chain at the back of the engine that goes to the passenger side cylinder head The Ford 4.6 liter SOHC , V8 engine has ( 2 ) timing chains at the front of the engine
( 3 timing chains ) on the 4.0 liter SOHC Ford engine . 2 are at the front of the engine and 1 timing chain at the back of the engine to the passenger side cylinder head
The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains , and if it is a 4x4 there is also a chain for the balance shaft of the engine
No, they are two different island chains.
No , the Ford 4.0 liter SOHC V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS ( 2 chains at the front and 1 chain at the rear of the engine on the passenger side )
Taurus uses chains. If it is a 3.0 liter 12 valve engine, it has one chain. If it is the 3.0 DOHC 24 valve engine, it has two chains.
It is a twin overhead cam engine that uses 2 chains. It's a Mazda engine but Ford used chains while for Mazda cars they use belts.
