There are strong opinions on this just like the strong opinions people have about political parties, especially since these "news" networks concentrate on political reporting. Many people believe neither is really providing actual news or journalism, but rather magazine TV and entertainment programming.
Both fall short in giving objective reporting on issues and both spin the news. Studies have been being done and non-partisan fact check organizations have found that Fox News has a higher percentage of inaccurate reporting of facts than MSNBC. The President and the owner of Fox news are themselves supportive of the Republican party and active in that support. Many, if not most of the reports on MSNBC seem to spin things more toward the Democratic party's point of view. It is unfortunate that most "news" networks have moved from investigative objective journalism to partisan spin and Propaganda.
The answer to this question ultimately depends upon the views of the person who is asked.
Yes, absolutely. They were not always in competition, but as MSNBC carved out a successful identity as a voice for Democratic and progressive voices, it ended up competing with Fox News, the voice of Republican and conservative voices. Fox News dominates the cable news ratings, but MSNBC has carved out a very successful niche and is consistently the number two news network on cable, often beating out CNN. And at certain times, MSNBC even beats Fox News, although in fairness, this does not often happen. But yes, the two networks definitely compete with each other.
First, it is a myth that "MSNBC has low ratings" or that "nobody watches them." The center-left network actually has a devoted niche audience, which watches them consistently. But it is also true that conservative network Fox News dominates the ratings, beating MSNBC, CNN, and most other news channels, by wide margins. (And it is also true that the traditional networks-- NBC, CBS, and ABC, have far more viewers to their evening newscasts than Fox News does.) That said, ratings for MSNBC vary. Their most popular host is Rachel Maddow, who gets the best ratings on the station; there are certain times when she has even tied Fox News. Lawrence O'Donnell generally comes in a close second to Rachel. Depending on what is happening in the news in a given week, MSNBC often finishes second to Fox, beating CNN. To get the latest ratings, which change week by week, I recommend going to the site TV Newser.com. I enclose a link.
Yes. If you are a person that wants the news how it is, and not how people want you to hear it. Then, I would highly recommend you do not follow MSNBC.
I don't know when this question was posed or by whom, but I just saw Paige Hopkins on (God forbid) MSNBC!! Say it ain't so! She did a news update on Jan 9, 2009. Wonder why she left Fox News...
It would be a person opinion why Fox News does better than MS-NBC. Some may think that Fox delights in being 'over the top' and giving viewers untruths and MS-NBC tries to give the facts and that Fox is ridiculous. Different people like both news stations.
Rupert Murdoch is usually deemed th owner of Fox News -- although some have opined that it's really owned by the US Republican Party. Rupert Murdoch is the owner. The word "opined" is used quite frequently by Bill O'Reilly, a fox network talk show host. [What uneducated liberal maroon added this section?]
MSNBC tends to lean Democrat while Fox News tends to lean Republican.
FOX News. Definely not at any of the major news networks.
