Genie's originate from Islamic backgrounds generally. A part of oriental culture we find difficult to comphrend in the west. Essentially there is a belief that Allah (aka God) made three sentient beings; Humans, Angels and Jins. We all know what what humans and angels are but Jins were kind of like spirits that lived along side us on earth. They generally avoided humans but would interfere now again for both good and bad.
For example if there was a hurricane in the desert it would be the makings of an angry 'Jin' along those lines.
So what is called a Jin in Islamic culture eventually became what we call a 'Genie', for some random reason the word comes from the Latin word 'Genius' but i don't understand what makes Jin's so clever.
So basically all the Genie's in Aladin and the Arabian Nights is infact just a mis-translation for a 'Jin'

Well, Witches and Genies are both mythical things so we don't know because we never saw then. But, Witches have spells and magic and Genies can do anything you want them to do. So I would say Genies are more powerful.
Yes, there are many myths and legends surrounding genies. One common belief is that genies grant wishes to those who release them from a bottle or lamp. However, in traditional folklore, genies are often depicted as powerful and unpredictable beings who may twist and interpret wishes in unexpected ways.
In the most common stories of genies they live in lamps.
Genies can live forever however it doesn't mean that they're resistant to danger.
They are mythical (not real)
