This is debatable but must be true to a certain extent.
The reason is simple and becomes even more simple when looked at in detail. None of Apples parts are designed to last forever, yet Apple specifically designed the new (aluminium) case to be impossible to open (even by them) without breaking them, thus costing them at least as much as a new product to fix your old one.
They will charge you that in full, even if you just need your battery replaced (which you will as batteries only keep their charge for 3-5 years before they need the chemicals in them swapped out)
The same applies to the Capacitors on your board and the fact that the case retains lots of heat (as aluminium is a lager absorber of heat than plastics and most other metals used in case design). This makes the parts inside get hotter and stay hot for longer periods of time, slowly damaging them over time.
