Raccoons are extremely friendly. We have been having raccoons come up to our back yard for 20+ years. They eat right out of the cat food tray, alongside the cats no problem. They have even become so use to us they will eat right out of our hands, even bringing their young up to the porch to feed.
What they like to do, especially if we feed them cookies, is take it, and dip it in the water bowl. Its so cute to watch them wash their hands too.
They are very intelligent animals. If you don't pose a threat to them, they will not bother you, and will probably just be curious . and check you out.
Side note...if you want some entertainment. Put out a bowl of water, and toss in some ice cubes, and watch the fun begin.
Note: Raccoons are not always friendly. Like other animals, if they feel threatened they can attack, and they can be dangerous to approach. They can also catch rabies, just like dogs can, so be careful around them, especially if they are acting erratically or aggressively.
No, they are not friends but try to avoid confrontations. See image above as they "share" a dish of pet food.
No, the squirrel would end up being eaten by the raccoon. They could not live together in the same cage or pen.
Yes. So do squirrels, skunks, and foxes.
There is always the possibility of genetic mutations in the animal kingdom, which would make it possible that there have been raccoons without stripes on their tails. However, all raccoons should have striped tails.
Raccoons and skunks may be seen about during winter months. During the coldest and snowiest times they remain in their den and sleep. It is not a true hibernation, however, as they may arise during less severe days and forage for food.
Skunks actually don't "hibernate" like bears do. In the winter time, you will find many skunks sharing the same den. They may go out to hunt for food from time to time but they don't hibernate. They are just less active.
Chocolate is very poisonous to many animals, including raccoons and skunks. Animals are not able to digest the chemicals found in chocolate. This causes severe reactions such as vomiting and sometimes death.

Skunks are more closely related to badgers than raccoons. Both are members of the superfamily Musteloidea while the raccoon is a procyonid.
