Call your state veterans representative; they're in the blue pages of the phone book. This is where you will start your search. Set an appointment and ask any questions you have. It is probably good to have a power of attorney so that you can ask personal questions and get the answers you want, instead of having to bring the veteran to the office. He's probably in his 80's by now. Take any and all papers you have that prove service, especially the DD 214. NOTE: sometimes it takes 2 or more talks with different representatives to find the one that you really communicate with. It happens more often than not. If you don't have a state veterans representative, try calling the Veterans Administration (Houston, Texas at
800 827 1000) for help and advice in this matter. Two items are important to make this easier for you: the power of attorney (which you can fax to Houston) and the DD 214. And, by the way, thank the veteran for his sacrifice and service. God bless you.
Widows of World War 2 veterans can apply for pensions through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in their country to receive benefits and support. They may need to provide documentation such as marriage certificates and proof of their spouse's service in the war to qualify for the pension.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars scholarship is available to descendants of veterans. The American Legion scholarship is also available to descendants of veterans.
