Turkeys do not make good pets. The males become combative when they mature. Not really. They are the ultimate "bird brain." Turkeys are so stupid that they have been known to look up during a rainstorm and drown themselves. Dogs make good pets because they are in the wolf family. Wolves are known for their "pack mentality", meaning that they will do whatever is necessary for the survival of the pack. If a dog (wolf) is adopted into YOUR pack (family), they will often demonstrate those same characteristics of loyalty. Those are the traits that make a good pet. Dogs are capable of comlex behaviors that can make them excellent pets. Turkeys, on the other hand, can make excellent processors of food, very efficently turning it into turkey fertilizer.

∙ 10y agoYes, they can make very fine pet, as long as you do your research on the type of bird. A good hint is to never ever buy a big, pretty fancy macaw, Amazon, or African Grey on an impulse or at all if you're a first time buyer because they look Exotic, look Pretty, talk and are a good deal. Never buy one of those birds if you're a beginner because they are harder to manage than you'd think!
And when you're buying a bird, make sure they're from a reputable breeder or from a rescue. Check their references and look at the parents. The bird you're buying may just be wild caught, and with birds it's almost as if you're taking a leopard from the jungle. Remember, birds aren't dogs and aren't as domesticated as them, therefore they won't become so cheerful in your tame home like a stray maybe would. Never buy wild caught birds. And I know this is a long reply, but I can't help stressing how hard they are to take care of. Not really hard (depending on the species) but nevertheless. Birds are not dogs. They are not cats. They are not fish. They are extremely intelligent people in feathers that rate right up there with chimps in intelligence. They need lots of attention, TRAINING, they need their cage bottom changed daily, and, well, they poop a LOT. Also they need the biggest cage you can get them (if you can afford 200$, definitely go for it). Again, DO YOUR RESEARCH and you will hopefully be OK.

Well, they Can be good pets and might be awful pets.... POSITIVE: They are fun to play with. Negative: They are noisy, if they escape their cage, it will take forever to catch, they defecate a lot, so it will smell awful in the room.
