To sex them, look at the bottom back single fin under the rear of the belly. In males it's pointed. In females it's fanned out. Immature males all look like females so watch as the babies grow up. A baby male can take 4 months or more to show his gender.

In the case of male livebearers this fin is called a 'gonopodium' it is modified into a kind of pointed funnel along which sperm can travel. In the case of a female livebearer. this ventral fin is a normal triangular shape.

∙ 7y agoNear the anus of each fish, there are very different parts for female and male mollies. Males have something that looks like a barb and the female have what looks like a fin, actually it is a fin. The male mollies' barb is actually a tube to get the female mollies pregnant.
