There is a law called "the four inch law" which means that any turtle/tortiuse with a shell that is 4 inches or smaller cannot be bought or sold. Most stores won't sell baby turtles, but some do although they probably are aware that they are breaking the law! If you find them in nature, if you can find a baby you can keep it. However each state is different and some turtles are a protected species and often taking a turtle out of the wild for domestication is prohibited. I found my turtle when his shell was the size of a quarter, he was walking in my driveway by himself far away from water. I've kept it ever since, I have now had him for over 2 years and still think turtles make amazing pets !
Congratulations about your turtle that you found. I agree they do make amazing pets. However - I would say that adults are better to buy as a pet, because adults are more large and will be most likely easier to feed since they will have a pretty good idea about what to do when feeding, cleaning and bath time comes.
I disagree because baby turtles are much more playfull and energetic. Also the fun in babies is that you have to train them and through that I have grown a bond with all the baby turtles I have, adults are easier to feed because they know what they like and how to get it, but the question is are u giving it to them. With babies they will take whats given and be happy.
My turtle was the size of a quarter when I got her i bought her from a pet store ! Although today I put her outside to play and I put up this fence around her and now i can't find her ! What do I do !
Although they are commonly sold, Res eared sliders and pond sliders are terrible first turtles. They get 10 inches or more long, and are very messy. I would recommend a spotted turtle, or a razor backed musk turtle. Make sure you do plenty of research and invest $50 or more yearly in a good, Mercury vapor UVA ANDUVB light bulb.

turtles are also good at walking slow......lol. They can be found in desert areas and in the United States. I think they make good pets......they're good at that too.
Turtles do have ear canals. however their hearing is not good, They are very sensitive to vibrations.

Turtles and Tortoises have highly similar DNA, as tortoises are a subgroup of turtles.
This order includes all turtles and tortoises. It is divided into three suborders: Pleurodira (side-necked turtles), Cryptodira (freshwater turtles, snapping turtles, tortoises, soft-shelled turtles, and sea turtles), and Amphichelydia (a suborder of turtles that is now extinct).

Box Turtles.
Yes Crickets Are good for turtles growth and cells in its shell
red eared slider turtles make good pets.
It really depends on how much they know about turtles and how responsible they are
Swimming
yes, they are. although I would not recommend turtles as a good kid pet anyway. if you are going to give your child a turtle, mud turtles are a good beginner turtle. as are box turtles. I have three turtles, a mud turtle, a box turtle, and a spotted turtle, and I am 13. Although it is also a question of how responsible you or your child is.
