The DVD drive in a MacBook can have its region changed 5 times before it locks region permanently.
So, if the final selection is 'region free,' then in theory it should stay that way.
A good Work around is to Download VLC media player. When the Region change window pops up just open VLC and Open Disc. After a few seconds it should play your DVD without you having to change the Region.
