From my understanding, yes you can. From what I've heard and read a lot of dentist actually prescribe it for tooth infections. I don't think it's as effective as Penicillin, Amoxicillin, or Clindamycin though., but not 100% on that. From my experience Penicillin and Clindamycin have worked extremely well on very bad tooth infections.

Also, try about 400mg ibuprofen every 8hrs or so along with the cephalexin. If that doesn't help and it doesn't upset your stomach or anything you can try up to 600-800mg of ibuprofen, but it's safer and generally more tolerated around 400mg.

Also Cephalexin is usually prescribed, 3x a day.

But I would recommend you just call your dentist and/or pharmacist, or whoever your prescribing Dr. is. If you just want a second opinion on his/her treatment it's usually a better and easier option to just call a trusted pharmacy or another dentist.

Good luck!

i don't see why you would, cephalexin (or "Keflex") is an antibiotic. It isn't a pain reliever. If there was an infection that is causing the toothache then taking Keflex may eventually diminish the pain by eliminating the swelling from the infection. But that is at the discretion of your medical provider.

Yes, but it won't do any good, because it's not a painkiller. It prevents and helps reverse infection. If you have no painkillers handy, swish a shot or two of any whiskey on the tooth, and it will stop hurting instantly. This will not last long, unless you drink the whiskey.

YES ~However I would Highly recommend only taking 1/2 the Cefprozil dosage as Cefprozil is an extra strength antibiotic. It will certainly help until you can get to a dentist and get the appropriate treatment.
