Not exactly. But the voltage regulator can let too much voltage reach the battery.
Check:
1. Using a voltmeter, check batt voltage at rest. Should read +- 12.6 V.
2. Check voltage at idle. Should read +-13.6 V.
3. Increase motor speed. Should not go over 14.5 V (that's the use of a volt. reg.). If so, could be a faulty volt. reg.
A persistant over 15 V. output will ruin the battery.
Sure, if the alternator voltage regulator is defective it can overcharge the battery.
Usually, overcharge, sometimes overdischarge. Check the alternator - the regulator is probably shorted.
Bad regulator. they are internal and no one repairs you just have to replace.
Bad voltage regulator - not sure whether it is internal to the alternator or a separate unit
Overcharge, often due to a shorted cell.
Almost all cars will run with the battery disconnected. They have a generator that will produce enough electricity to keep the vehicle running. ----------------- However, DO NOT RUN THE CAR WITH THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED you run a serious risk of destroying your ECM, the main computer in your car. You can also destroy your electronic dash. Without the battery, there is no load and the alternator is free to overcharge and destroy anything and everything electrical on the car. Yes, it is possible to run the car on alternator only, but it is a very bad idea....DONT DO IT.
an alternator recharges the battery of your car
The alternator of a car is responsible for charging the car battery. Someone who repairs a broken alternator ensures that the alternator works again and continues to keep the car battery charged.
You can purchase a car alternator at Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Firestone, Midas, Goodyear, CarX and you can also purchase a car alternator from any car dealership.
P0563 system voltage too high. You need to check the batery cables, grounds, and the alternator for a overcharge condition.
16 volts or more is too high. You should see between 13.8 and 15.3 volts with engine running. I would suspect the voltage regulator is defective. This will overcharge and ruin your battery. The voltage regulator may be built into the alternator depending on the make and model vehicle.
you need the alternator to charge the battery with no alternator when the battery drops to about 10 volts car will not run at all.
