Not the actual outside of skin itself, they will leave that but they will peck at and eat all the layers of pulp, plus all the stringy seed membrane including the seeds. Bust a pumkin open for them in the fall and all that will be left over is the thin hard dark orange outer layer of skin.
Absolutely, chickens love squash and pumpkins. These veggies are very nutritious and much enjoyed by the hens. It is an excellent way to recycle leftover pumpkins in the garden after Halloween.
