I understand that sometimes a lack of acid, as opposed to too much acid, can cause similar reflux-like symptoms. I think my doctor was perhaps too quick to prescribe and not careful enough to consider the alternatives first. I have also read that the acid in lemons is processed by the body in a manner different than the acid produced by the digestive system but don't know if this is accurate. However what I do know is that my initial experimentation with lemon juice and going off PPIs (e.g., Nexium, Aciphex, Prilosec etc.) is very promising and I plan to continue with the juice and no PPIs. I'm taking a half a lemon in water first thing each morning and a quarter at night. If you don't like the taste of lemon in water you can add the honey, but I thing that's just for flavor, not an active ingredient in this context, and personally I'm not using honey, I'm just using fresh lemons and water. So simple and in these first days its thus far working better that the PPIs were. If you try this, please also note that you should rinse with plain water or even brush your teeth after drinking the lemon water, as lemon juice is hard on the enamel of your teeth.

Yes, my friend just told me that she and another lady tried lemon juice before breakfast and 1 more at night and by three weeks both were cleared of very bad reflux. When she suggested it to me, I repeatedly ask her why lemon. Isn't lemon acidic? She also told me to add honey if I cannot tolerate. Now I happen to hear the above explanation. Thanks. I will try. She said lemon is akaline? cannot be. Anyway, thanks as I also learn from you about rinsing as I have been trying for 2 weeks and did not think of rinsing. Is our intake too much? Should it be half and quarter instead of 1 and 1? Thanks for the contribution. Not editing the contribution but to confirm what friend said and it amazes me.
