It can also be related to having a crooked / bad teeth alignment which allows for it to be easy to bite that way. In addition to that, it can also be related to stress . . . FYI OCD can be brought on by stress/anxiety.
Some tips / advice to help avoid doing it . . .
1. Take a deep breath. Drink water.
2. Eat something, or chew gum. This really helps.
3. Brush your teeth and floss regularly.
5. Know that mouth sores can cause oral cancer. Be aware of that.
6. Avoid eating popcorn or sticky foods frequently. This can irritate your teeth and give you a desire to chew on the inside of your cheeks.
7. Wear a mouth guard or retainer at night to help protect your gums and lips if you feel that is necessary. This isn't necessary if you don't do it all the time.
