What would you like to do?
Yes. The 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS are backwards compatible and can play DS and DSi games. Unless they require the GBA slot, the 3DS is not compatible with Slot 2 attachments for the DS so games such as Guitar Hero will not work. The DS and DSi game will not be in 3D even if the 3D is turned on.

Thanks for the feedback!
Nope. Sadly, you cannot because some of the games require a camera, the internet, etc. The DSi can play all Nintendo DS and DSL games, however.
Sadly, no. DSi games cannot be played on the DS or the DSL. The DSi features games that are specifically formatted for it,and some can be downloaded from the DSiShop (online) …therefore, the DSi can play all the DS and DSL games, but its games cannot be played on the older versions.
Yes, the Nintendo DSi can play Nintendo DS games. The NDS and NDSi are compatible with each other and can link for multiplayer as well. There are really no such thing as '…DSi games' except for DSi-ware and one or two games that require the DSi camera, none of which are compatible with a DS. However, since the DSi has no GBA slot, Game Boy Advance games and DS games that require this slot (e.g. Guitar Hero: On Tour) cannot be played on a DSi. Flash carts and unofficial hardware won't work either, but there may be a newer version available, designed for the DSi. Another problem you might find is that if you have any Wi-fi capable games, they will only work with a WEP security enabled network (or of course a network without security), not WPA.
The thing is, if a game is a 'DSi game', it means it is the one or two DSi-exclusive games, which require the DSi's camera. Clearly these could never be played on a regular or… lite DS. Next, the DSi can download 'DsiWare' games, but these go on the internal memory or SD card - which the DS don't have. Everything else is just a 'DS game' and will work on any model of the DS. Some games are DSi enhanced which means playing them on a DSi adds extra features, but nonetheless they still function fine on a regular or lite DS.
if the artwork on the box say DSI you can not play it on a Nintendo ds, but, there are only a handful of games that say this
they all play the same type dsi play ds games
No. 3DS game cards have a small tab on the side, so they don't fit into the Nintendo DS or the Nintendo DSi. Even without the tab, 3DS game cards will have much more data …and better graphics on them than DS cards. The technology is too advanced for the Nintendo DS and DSi so the other DS systems would not be able to run them.
Yes they can. They are the same consoles just with different features.
Yes you can play a Nintendo ds game on dsi XL, because the XL Nintendo has got a slot for it therefore it could analyze the games.
The DSi is an enhanced DS, and all 'DS games' will run on it - in fact there are no such thing as 'DSi games' apart from any DSi shop ones, or the possible exception of a game… that uses the DSi's cameras. However since the DSi does not have a slot-2, it means Guitar Hero can't be played on it, as that has a necessary add-on that requires the DS slot-2.
I'm afraid not. Idiots have said that you can't play 3DS games on any DS system behind the 3DS itself. This makes me worry that a certain game that I want to be on the DS is n…ow going to be on the Nintendo Shit3DS which I can't play on my DS lite.
If they were specially designed for the 3DS, no. There is a small tab jutting out of the side of 3DS games making them unplayable on a DSi. Even if you could fit the cards int…o a DSi, they would not work because they use 3D technology the DSi cannot utilize. DSi games will be playable on the 3DS though.
You can play Nintendo DSi games on the 3DS, but the images won't be in 3D.
Sorry, but no. We'll all have to upgrade.
A 3D game for the Nintendo DS, like Legend of Kay, will work just fine on a DSi.
