Can the Nintendo 3DS play Nintendo DS or DSi games?
Yes. The 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS are backwards compatible and can play DS and DSi games. Unless they require the GBA slot, the 3DS is not compatible with Slot 2 attachments for the DS so games such as Guitar Hero will not work. The DS and DSi game will not be in 3D even if the 3D is turned on.

Thanks for the feedback!
DSi has camera functions, internet capabilities, and the addition of the DS store. however, its not much of a difference in terms of game play unless you're talking about ge…tting a DSi XL which is basicly a DSi but larger screen and such. Otherwise gameplay isn't affected in anyway. If you are looking toward saving money, just get a ds but if you got the money to spend and want a bigger screen, more functions, get a DSi or DSi XL. Of course there is also the 3DS which is a "no glasses" 3D handheld but I don't it's worth it right now because it has no exclusive games on there at the moment. Here's an abridged version of what I said: DS-smaller, first model, cheaper, plays DS games DSi-slightly larger, bit more expensive, plays DS games DSI XL- Much larger, Bit more expensive, Plays DS games 3DS- DSi size, very expensive, plays DS and 3DS games (barely any 3DS games currently out thought)
It can run DS games, but it can't run GBA games.
DS games are not model specific (but see below). There is no such thing as a 'DS lite' game, or a 'DSi XL game' as such, only DS games, which work on every DS console. There… are plans for games which play as normal on the DS and the lite, but have 'enhanced' features when played on a DSi or XL. Then there is at least one game which can only be played on DSi and XL because it uses the cameras. Games like this will be clearly marked on the box though. However at the moment, the DSi and XL can play any DS game, no problem.
It is able to play DS games, and will have its own 3DS games which will not work on any older DS model.
Yes and no. The games you are able to play in your DS XL can also be played in your 3DS, but they will not be in 3D. The 3DS games can only be played in your 3DS, and not in… your DS XL (or any previous model) at all.
Yes, the Nintendo DSi can play Nintendo DS games. The NDS and NDSi are compatible with each other and can link for multiplayer as well. There are really no such thing as '…DSi games' except for DSi-ware and one or two games that require the DSi camera, none of which are compatible with a DS. However, since the DSi has no GBA slot, Game Boy Advance games and DS games that require this slot (e.g. Guitar Hero: On Tour) cannot be played on a DSi. Flash carts and unofficial hardware won't work either, but there may be a newer version available, designed for the DSi. Another problem you might find is that if you have any Wi-fi capable games, they will only work with a WEP security enabled network (or of course a network without security), not WPA.
No. 3DS game cards have a small tab on the side, so they don't fit into the Nintendo DS or the Nintendo DSi. Even without the tab, 3DS game cards will have much more data …and better graphics on them than DS cards. The technology is too advanced for the Nintendo DS and DSi so the other DS systems would not be able to run them.
The Nintendo DS is fully backward compatible with Nintendo DS games; however, the Nintendo 3DS does not have Slot 2, as seen on the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite, so those …features will not be supported. Additionally, DSiWare games will be available to download on the Nintendo 3DS after the software update in May 2011.
Currently there are no Nintendo Systems that Support Skype!
Yes. I have read about it on Nintendo's website, but you can find out more on March 27.
Yes. It is like playing GameBoy Advance games on a GameBoy Advance SP.
YES!! you can play ALMOST all ds games. there is an exception for games that require a gba attachment , although there are SPECIFIC dsi games such as System Flaw , so you CAN…'T play THAT on a ds/ds lite
The thing is, if a game is a 'DSi game', it means it is the one or two DSi-exclusive games, which require the DSi's camera. Clearly these could never be played on a regular or… lite DS. Next, the DSi can download 'DsiWare' games, but these go on the internal memory or SD card - which the DS don't have. Everything else is just a 'DS game' and will work on any model of the DS. Some games are DSi enhanced which means playing them on a DSi adds extra features, but nonetheless they still function fine on a regular or lite DS.
In Nintendo DSi
No, but you can trade in your old DSi for credit toward a 3DS. So if you trade it in, you'll save 50-100 dollars on your 3DS.
Yes, the 3DS XL can play Nintendo 3DS games
No, the Nintendo DSi cannot play GameBoy Advanced or GameBoy Games. However, it can play all the games for Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DS, except for games that require …the slot 2 such as Guitar Hero.
Yes, regular DS games can be played on any model of the 3DS including the New 3DS, 2DS and 3DS XL. The only exceptions are ones that required the GBA slot of the original …DS and DS Lite, such as Guitar Hero.
