Contact the court where you think they filed the lawsuit. Remember that it is the responsibility of the plaintiff (person suing) to serve you with notice of the lawsuit. Their lawsuit will be dismissed if they don't give proper notice.

You will be formally "served" with papers stating that a lawsuit has been brought out against you. You must be present when the papers come or it will not be validated. A signature is required.

You additional information has been moved to the discussion section.

If the relative won the suit, there is no settlement. If there is a judgment, the estate can collect on the judgment. If there is a settlement, the parties agreed not to move forward with the suit.

You can check with the clerk of court where the suit was litigated to find out how the suit was resolved.

If a company is being sued, then it is a matter of public record. You can search through court records to see if a case has been filed. It would help to know which state the lawsuit would be filed in, in order to search the correct court records.
