Here are the conditions to get the johto starters: You cannot switch out during battle or switch the two Pokemon your using ever, you can't have them faint and you must use the two throughout the whole Mt Battle.

Yes, the only conditions for getting the starters are getting the same Pokemon in the roster without changing. That means they can faint, switch order, items, and pretty much anything else as long as it is the same roster of Pokemon.

Then switch him out (if he's weak) and defeat the opponent. DO this for every single opponent( without letting your friendship Pokemon faint).

If you are trying to catch Cresselia I would swap Diglett for one of our stronger Pokemon (click x then go onto the Pokemon section, click the Diglett and press switchto switch it for one of your stronger Pokemon before the battle). Diglett cannot learn Mean Look, or any of the other blocking moves such as block and Spider Web.If I were you I would use different Pokemon to catch Cresselia.
