PS3 games are region free.......everything else you're on your own. I was scammed into buying a Japanese PS3 on Ebay but I currently live in Canada so I'm plagued with the same problem. There are no current mod chips and no software that change the region like there was for the PS2. Hopefully one day there will be a fix for this as I would like to watch m DVD's and play PS2 games on my system.

∙ 12y agoThe ps3 is not regioned for ps3 games. However, older games (ie PS2), DVD's and any other regioned media supported by the PS3 is still regioned. As of now, there are no known exploits for the PS3 to disable any of the regioning support. No way to do it with software or hardware.
If you wish to play back video, you can install Linux on the PS3 and use tools within Linux for playback - but be prepared to spend some time and effort making this work. I have it working, but I couldn't tell you how I did it anymore. I started with Yellow Dog Linux, then added a bunch of repositories as well as recompiling many of the media packages. I did this almost a year ago, so the situation may be better in Yellow Dog Linux as of now.
For Video Games, I don't believe you have any options on the PS3 as of now.
